RLLaw, a Northbrook, Illinois based law firm, is seeking a trusts and estates paralegal to join its rapidly growing and highly collaborative law firm. The paralegal must be able to work independently, managing complex trust administration and probate matters from beginning to end in collaboration with and with the support of the responsible attorney.
Responsibilities:
- Identifying and collecting assets
- Preparing various trust administration and probate documents
- Preparing, updating, and providing status reports internally as well as to clients
- Supporting the responsible attorney with document preparation, correspondence, meetings, and other aspects of the matter
- Preparing accountings, federal and state estate tax returns, and federal gift tax returns
- Reviewing and summarizing wills and trust agreements in collaboration with attorneys to implement the trust administration and probate process to ultimately distribute assets and fund sub-trusts
- Docketing and tracking court dates, tax filings, and other deadlines
- Using reference materials and performing basic research using a variety of resources.
Education and Experience:
- 5+ years of experience as a trusts and estates paralegal
- Familiarity with procedures of probate courts, taxing authorities and regulatory agencies
- Experience working with Microsoft Office resources (Outlook, Word, Excel,), PDF software, and document management software
- Experience working with tax preparation software (e.g., CCH ProSystem fx)
- Ability to learn and use advanced software programs and new technology
- Desire to attend continuing education courses to improve skills
- Good understanding of basic business relationships and client confidentiality principles.
